2009 Avenius Red
Cedar box. What an odd descriptor. But we all agreed that this best defined the Avenius Red 2009. A generation ago we would have said cigar box. But that was then and this is now. Dried red fruit, forest floor, old style Rioja were all contenders. This wine still has lots of fruit and structure, but additionally has the complexity that only time can layer on.
Vintage 2009 was one of our favorites. The cool, dry, late-ripening conditions concentrated flavors while maintaining acidity. This wine is a blend of 62% Petit Verdot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 13% Merlot. Reminiscent of the current 2017 release, even though the blend is quite different. Terroir speaks.
Each weekend Linden features an older vintage from our wine library for tasting. Additionally, Friends of Linden can purchase a carafe of the wine to enjoy on the deck. Unfortunately we rarely have enough stock to purchase by the bottle.
