Harvest Update

Harvest started last week with cool mornings and warm days. That changed. The grapes are ripening faster than we would like. But our preferences don’t matter. Grape sugars are skyrocketing. This will result in high alcohol wines. Not really Linden’s style, but we always respect and defer to the vintage rather than force a style. We are experts in working around rain and hurricanes. Heat and drought are new challenges.

What we can’t complain about is the pristine condition of the clusters. The lack of rain and dew has eliminated any rot pressure. So far, the feared invasive Spotted Lanternfly has only sent out scouting parties. Picking and sorting has been easy and relaxing. Due to the drought, the grapes have more pulp and less juice than normal. This means less wine, but more concentration.

Weekend Harvest and Crush Tours will start this Friday, September 8. While many of the spots for Saturdays and Sundays have been reserved, there are still plenty of openings on most Fridays.

Harvest and Crush | Tour and Tasting

This is your opportunity to see up close how wine is made. Crush is the winemaking term for all the activity from picking the grapes to extracting the juice and starting fermentation. Our educational tour begins in the vineyard and then continues on the crush pad and into the cellar. You will be able to sample grapes, juice and/or fermenting wine (depending on availability). We’ll finish the tour with our comparative wine tasting.

$50 per person. By reservation only. Group size is limited.
