Linden Update | November 2019

Pairing Wines for Thanksgiving

The classic Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce is decidedly wine unfriendly. This riot of flavors and textures will probably clash with any one special wine. Something sweet, bubbly, or pink probably has the best chance of success.

I learned decades ago that it is a fool’s errand to bring an expensive bottle to the table on Thanksgiving. My insistence that everyone pay attention to the wine did not go over well. It’s not about the pedigree of the wine. Choose a wine with a personal story that reflects a memory, an event, or a special moment. Native Americans and immigrants shared a successful harvest. Thanksgiving dinner should be centered on traditions, stories and conviviality. So too the wine.

Free Form December

Winter slows the pace at Linden. After an intense harvest, we now take time to get re-acquainted with our past vintages and recent bottlings. For the last several years we have enjoyed sharing this process with all of you.

The tasting room is only open for five days during the entire month of December. And we will make the most of each and every one of them. For the weekends of December 7 & 8 and 14 & 15 traditional tastings are abandoned in favor of a more whimsical, free form tasting of past, present, and future bottlings.

Some of the highlights will include special pre-releases of 2016 single vineyard reds, a new white wine from 2017, and random older vintages.

In keeping with the free form theme, there will be no reservations nor will there be cellar tastings. Regular tasting fees ($10.00), hours (11:00 to 5:00), and restrictions (no groups larger than four) apply.
