Waiting to Prune
Winter pruning is our favorite vineyard task. While we are anxious to get started, we'll wait until January. There are many reasons, theories, and even superstitions that support delaying pruning.
Some say that winter pruning should only start once the coldest part of winter has passed. If the winter gets so cold as to kill fruitful buds, the pruning can then be adjusted to compensate for the damage.
Pruning later in the winter or even early spring can reduce wood diseases as the pruning wounds heal faster and sap flow can flush out disease organisms.
According to some winegrowers, one should delay winter pruning until after the solstice, when the days get longer and the sap is lower in the vine and held in reserve for spring growth.
Biodynamic practitioners consult a special calendar and only prune on designated days.
For us, these are all good excuses to procrastinate and enjoy some good down time. We'll still have three months to complete pruning.

Last Weekend of Tastings for 2025
This weekend's tasting will be our last for 2025, but we are finishing the year with something special. We will sample wines from our wine library, a collection of every vintage we have bottled since 1987. Tasting these back vintages gives insight into understanding our terroir, our picking decisions, and winemaking techniques. Patience rewards.
We'll share past vintages with those who are interested. And tell stories. We'll not only open older vintages in a special tasting format, but also have fun with some spontaneous cork pulling.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday | December 12, 13, 14
$40 per person
We will be closed after the Special December Tastings
(except December 20 and 21 for Friends of Linden only)
until January 16.
